Infrastructure / noun 1 structural foundations of a society or enterprise.
A tree needs roots, a building needs a foundation and communications systems need an IP infrastructure as the base layer. It’s a broad term, but the essence of it is the voice and data network and all the things that go with it. It’s basic things like telephone lines and internet connection through to converged switches and wireless technology.
We have some criteria on what an infrastructure should be. Scalable, secure and resilient are some of the basic requirements and using the same manufacturer equipment for both voice and data also provides many advantages.
The reality for many businesses, particularly multi-site businesses, is that they have a myriad
of different types of telephone systems and data switches. In this type of environment it sometimes makes little financial or operational sense to replace everything in one go, which is why we always present a migration plan to ensure a smooth transition from old technology to new but still allowing you to benefit from the advantages of new technology. The important thing in all of this is to ensure that you have an infrastructure which supports the business requirements.
